Peter thank you for your comments and I could answer yes to your question because I love writing and do not see writing for my blog as a chore. It is however largely done to stimulate interest around my work interest which is coaching.

Have you ever considered adding more videos to your blog posts to keep the readers more entertained? I mean I just read through the entire article of yours and it was quite good but since I’m more of a visual learner,I found that to be more helpful well let me know how it turns out. i probably would not have supposed this was great a few years in the past however it’s interesting just how age alters the means by which you respond to diverse concepts, thanks regarding the piece of writing it is actually good to read some thing clever now and then instead of the normal trash mascarading as a blog on the net, cheers

Ian thank you for your reply I was certainly amazed at how often I confused this simple act and got into places of ambiguity and ultimately disappointment. I like how you’ve highlighted the legitimacy of making requests and some of the pitfalls that can get in the way or create confusion.

In the communication practice I work with, requests are a core element. Features of making an effective request I find useful to keep in mind are:

1 Make it clear what I’m asking to happen and not what I don’t want to happen (which is often ambiguous)
2 Frame the request as something I want in the present moment rather than a future action (eg I want to hear your agreement to ../ reaction to … / intention to …)
3 There are no actual or implied rewards/punishments (which make them demands).
